Longing for Fall... Coping with Smitten Kitchen's awesome Snickerdoodles

I made these cookies tonight (no, not these exact ones, Smitten Kitchen’s recipe renditions always look 10x better than mine do!!) because the San Diego nights are finally chilling down again and I really miss fall in Colorado (the Aspens, gorgeous sunsets, and sometimes a hint of snow). These are so delicious, and the cinnamon really warms the soul. I’ve been in need of some comfort foods today, and to me that means spicy (as in spiced, not HOT spicy) food. I had pho earlier, and these cookies are the perfect late night snack.

Also, I’ve been very neglectful of this place. I’m sorry, Tumblr. I’ll try to do better by you.

How to make your own frozen yogurt - Sunset.com

Since I have quite the addiction to froyo, I need to do this one of these days… Speaking of which, I’m getting froyo later today! Very excited ;) Also realizing I haven’t posted enough in here lately, so hopefully that’ll change. I always find neat things but forget to tumblr-ize them…

Plum Kuchen @ Smitten Kitchen

Doesn’t this look gorgeous AND delicious? Plums are very much in season, and I NEED to make this! I think I may wait until we visit Jon’s parents in Boulder so we can make it for them as well. His mom is fond of plums, especially the Santa Rosa variety. Hopefully we can find some really good local ones or at least some California plums that will do. I’m looking forward to this!

Back to Boulder

As much as I love it out here in San Diego, I miss Boulder, CO (our old home) a lot as well. It’s just such a magical town with great people & beautiful surroundings. Plus, the air quality is about 100x better, so I can’t wait for that! Here’s a list of things that Jon (my husband) and I are planning on doing on our trip back!

1. Eating at Sushi Zanmai, Bimbamboo, and the Teahouse. Our favorite restaurants in Boulder! Zanmai has some of the best rolls (the Z#9 & Firecracker rolls are favorites) and great/friendly staff. Bimbamboo is awesome Asian fusion cuisine. I especially love their Banh Mi (I think I like their twist better than traditional Banh Mi actually…), Thai Lemonade, and their sweet potato fries. The Tea House has pretty good food, but truly the draw there is the atmosphere (a really neat building that was brought over from Tajikistan in pieces and re-assembled in Boulder) and the huge variety of teas they serve.

2. Shopping at the Farmer’s Market. Boulder has the best (as far as I’m concerned) Farmer’s Market I’ve ever been to. Despite their close proximity to many farms & long growing season, San Diego’s FM have been really disappointing. And MOST of them don’t allow dogs (and that’s one of the best things, being able to walk a FM with your dog!) I’m looking forward to a REAL market that’s dog friendly and has tons of organic produce & goods.

3. Hiking! I haven’t been hiking much around San Diego, since we usually opt to go to the gym. We didn’t take enough advantage of all the great trails while we lived in Boulder, so it’ll be nice to have the time to explore them more while we’re on vacation. The Flatirons & Boulder Falls are two places we’ll hopefully go, as well as maybe Table Mesa area. Here is a big map of all the trails around Boulder. There are so many!

4. Shopping on Pearl Street. Since I used to work down here, I rarely got to actually hang out & enjoy a nice day of shopping on the mall (I’d stay home unless I had to go down there, ha). We’ll definitely go to the Boulder Bookstore, Savory Spice Shop, Lush (my old workplace!), Prana, and many other stores!

5. Celestial Seasonings tour & tea shop. We may do this (we’ve done it a bunch before), it’s pretty close to where Jon’s parents live and it’s always fun. I already have SO much tea in my cupboards, but maybe one more box wouldn’t hurt? Also, my sinuses have been acting up, so I could really use a stop in the famous Peppermint Room! :)

6. Possible trip to Denver to the Museum of Nature & Science and Denver Art Museum. Two museums I haven’t been to in a LONG time, and I wanted to visit before we moved (but didn’t have the time). Hopefully we’ll go to at least one while we’re back in town! The zoo isn’t bad either, but we have a great one out here in SD and we’ve been to the Denver Zoo within the last 2 years.

7. Maybe get some rain? I sure hope that we get a little rain there since I don’t think SD will see any until the end of this year at least. It’s sad! I miss the rain a lot since it rarely graces Southern California. Maybe we could even bring a bit back with us? Ha, wishful thinking…

8. Lots of walks around the neighborhood with Nellie. She doesn’t get enough walks here, and there’s a great path we used to take all around Jon’s parents’ neighborhood with her just about every day. She’s going to love it!

9. Hang out with friends. The few we have there! It’ll be great to see my old staff members from Lush as well. They were friends too!

10. Lots of family time with Jon’s parents & their pups! I can’t wait for Nellie to have interaction with her corgi pals. They all used to run like crazy through the house and chase eachother! I can’t wait to see them do this again. It’s wonderful! Plus we hope to have lots of family dinners & game times with them. They are truly the MAIN reason for our visit.

I’m sure we’ll do lots of other things too since we’ll have a whole week! I’m really excited & can’t wait for the three weeks to pass so we can be back in Colorado!

Korres Wild Rose 24-hour Moisturizer

Whilst browsing Korres’ new US site, I came across this product & remembered that I’ve always been intrigued by it (I’ve seen it at Sephora and read about it before on other sites). I like that it says it works for 24 hours, since I generally only use moisturizer once in a 24-hour period. Anyway, if I hadn’t just purchased more Philosophy Hope in a Jar (which is also great…) I would try this now. Maybe in the future! Everything that Korres makes sounds great. I hope one day to try a lot of their stuff!

I am a huge fan of Pilates. I love every part of it, even if it does require some pain sometimes (the good kind, I promise… Yes, there is a good kind!) This move, the forearm plank, is one of my favorites. I wasn’t very good at it at first, but now it seems easier every time I do it. Next week is my final Pilates class, but I plan to sign up for another session because I can’t imagine not doing at least one class per week. :) I highly recommend Pilates, in addition to the Les Mills classes I take (bodycombat & bodypump) it’s been a great part of my exercise regime!

No Competition - Homes and Decorating - eco-inspiration

Via: Coastalliving.com, some really neat eco ideas for home decor & design. I love this kitchen especially. Uses reclaimed & recycled materials, and wheat board for the stools (much more sustainable than wood)! Link has more neat ideas.

This Friday is dedicated to my favorite dog in the whole world: my Nellie dog! I love, love love this girl. She’s about to embark on a journey with us to Colorado, and will not be pleased that we’ve chosen to fly. Thanks to Southwest Airlines finally accepting pets in the cabin (and charging less than other airlines!) she gets to venture once again into the wild blue yonder. She’s going to be *so* thrilled :b
